    _Recording Workshop

_Let’s sing!  Last year at Gospel Rising we recorded a version of Kirk Franklins ‘Brighter Day’ as our closing out Sunday workshop (keep an eye on our Gospel Rising Facebook page for updates, the video is nearly finished!).  This year we have moved the recording session to Saturday afternoon to get everyone in full voice for their big recording moment!  We are currently in discussions about song choice which we will get up on the website (along with lyrics, etc.) prior to the festival.

Whether you are an individual, or part of a choir, all the workshops have been designed to suit all. Welcome to all the new interest we have had, and welcome back repeat participants!

This year we’re changing things up just a little bit!  As always there will be 3 sessions of workshops where you get to choose what you do.  Similarly to the last two years each session will contain choral workshops, soloist workshops and choreography workshops.  This year we are also branching out to look at some other aspects of gospel music and gospel choirs such as gig prep, song writing and the how we use our music in our churches.  This year Session 1 and Session 2 will take place on Saturday and Session 3 will run on Sunday (in order to fit some new stuff into the festival programme!)

In response to feedback from the last two years we have taken the decision to cap the numbers who will be able to attend each workshop in order to make sure that attendee’s get the most out of the workshops and no one gets lost (can hide) in the crowd!  This year we are also limiting each participant to one soloist workshop.  This is a new policy which we have introduced due to the huge demands for soloist workshops at past festivals, in order to give as many people as possible the opportunity to have access to these master-class style workshops.

There are a few bits and pieces still to be finalised but we’re nearly there and I am delighted to say that this years’ facilitators are dying to get in there and get everyone singing.  This year we’re very excited to have our fist facilitator coming from the USA.  Check out all our facilitator bios and workshop blurbs to find out more!

    Have fun picking your workshops.

Look forward to seeing (and hearing) you at the festival.

    _Friday Night Opening Workshop

    Friday Night Opening Workshop
_Friday nights’ workshop is all about having fun, letting go of our inhibitions and getting to know members from all the choirs attending the festival (who you will get to know a lot better over the weekend!).  But we also want you to learn something during the evening!  This year, our opening workshop will be led by David Jackson (former MD of the Harlem Gospel Choir, USA).

Praise and Worship is a contemporary type of gospel music which has taken hold in the USA.  It takes the form of opening music for a service and is usually led by one person who is backed up by a ‘Praise Team’. This has become one of the most important parts of today’s church services in many churches in the USA and can be in many instances the most powerful part of the service. It sets the tone of the service and sometimes the songs are on the same page as the sermon that is brought forth.  This workshop looks at singing Gospel from a Ministerial standpoint and learning how to bring ministry and entertaining/performance together to make it all one.  Come ready to sing!
